Insomnia remedies are a dime a dozen, but finding one that actually works can be frustrating.
Fixing the problem is more than finding a cure. You need to start at the beginning.
First, you need to figure out why you can't fall asleep. Stress? Hormones? Sugar? Caffeine? Depression?
If you can find a cause, and change it, that should solve the insomnia -- cut back on sugar or caffeine, seek out some counseling if you're dealing with family problems or a loss.
But what about in the meantime? Lack of sleep can cause its own stress, leading you into more insomnia.
Breaking the cycle can start with a short-term solution.
Over the Counter (OTC) sleep aids can be helpful, but research is starting to show that some of them can be as harmful as prescription sleep meds.
I found MidNite PM to be a good OTC sleep aid...at first. After 2 nights, I was wide awake on the third night. I was able to use it successfully a few nights a week, which was better than not getting any sleep at all.
A good melatonin sleep aid can work wonders, but there are cautions to be aware of.
1. Where did this melatonin come from? Some is gotten from the pineal gland in sheep. Where did the sheep come from? Were they diseased?
2. Our bodies manufacture melatonin naturally, so taking it from an outside source means that the body will slow down or stop production of it.
Caution should be used with all synthetic over the counter sleep aids, since research is showing that they can be harmful to your body.
To say I was miserable from lack of sleep is putting it mildly. I was absolutely losing my mind! I was so desperate, that I finally tried a prescription sleep aid. It worked, but the side effects were horrible.
Then, I was introduced to Clary Sage essential oil. This can be used under the tongue, on the bottom of the feet, or in a capsule. It makes me sleep like the dead and I don't wake up groggy. This is truly a miracle in a bottle!
The first time I used this, I put it under my tongue. This wasn't for me. I slept, but the taste bothered me.
After that, I started putting 2 drops on the bottom of my feet before bed. If I don't feel drowsy in 10-15 minutes, I put 2 more drops on.
I'm an expert at this! I've suffered through the symptoms of perimenopause for 12 years, now. I didn't want hormone therapy, because of all the health risks, so I've been doing this naturally.
Not only is this oil one of the best insomnia remedies of all time, but it's a great natural remedy for hot flashes, too!
