Types of Headaches

Choosing a Remedy Starts with a Diagnosis

Natural remedies for different types of headaches can be safer, work faster and be more effective than using medications.

Self-care home remedies for headaches strike at the root cause of the discomfort, instead of just treating the symptom (the ache in your head).

The key to effective use of home remedies is picking the right one. Knowing which remedy to use starts with correctly diagnosing your problem.

Headaches are not all the same, nor are they all caused by the same things. Some types of headaches include:

Tension Headaches

These are the most common of head pains.  It shouldn't be a surprise to know the number one factor that contributes to these is stress

This can be mild to moderate pain, or just the feeling of tightness. It can be felt anywhere in the head, neck and shoulders.  Think about it...when you're stressed, what do you do?  Right, you tense up your shoulders. This brings your shoulders closer and closer to your ears.

Natural headache relief tricks include getting those shoulders back down where they belong...and keeping them there!

Sinus Headaches

These are the result of inflammation in the sinus cavities.  The pain from this type of headache can be mild to severe. The pressure from the swelling causes the headache.

Sinus headache remedies that concentrate on reducing inflammation can be very effective.

Chronic Headaches

Chronic headaches are general, non-specific, and seemingly unrelated to anything in particular.

They can come-and-go or they can be an almost permanent condition that becomes so familiar that you just learn to put up with not feeling well.

Chronic Headache Reason #1

One of the major causes of these types of headaches can be from a clogged up digestive tract.

Constipation remedies can actually put an end to these toxic headaches.  When the digestive system is backed up, toxins stay inside the body and can be the root of this pain.

Once the colon gets cleaned out, these headaches subside and go away.  Keeping a clean colon is very beneficial for everybody's health.

Chronic Headache Reason #2

Another thing that causes chronic headaches is poor posture.

When looking down at things (like math problems) for a long time, the muscles in the front of the neck shorten.  This can cause pulling on the muscles at the base of the skull, which in turn, will pull up the back of the head, over the top to the forehead.

This can result in pain from the back of the neck all the way to the forehead.

For example, a math student might suffer headaches at the same time everyday while in math class.  This same student may not have a headache during this time frame on the weekends or holidays, because he's not spending as much time looking down.

More Reasons...

  • Working math problems too long
  • Reading with the book too low
  • Watching TV while lying on the back in the bed with your head propped on too many pillows.
  • Improper digestion

These can also contribute to headaches in children

Migraines...the worst

Migraine symptoms:

  • Nausea
  • Vision problems: seeing spots, blurred vision, not seeing complete images
  • Vertigo
  • Light sensitivity
  • Intense throbbing/stabbing pain usually on the side of the head

Cluster migraine headaches...the worst of the worst

These types of headaches can start at night, during sleep, and continue for days, weeks or months.

Symptoms are usually intense, searing pain on the side of the head and into the eye.  The pain can be severe enough to incapacitate a person

Cluster headaches are severe, but there are natural migraine headache remedies that can work just as well as prescription meds.

Effectively using home remedies

As a massage therapist, I haven't always been able to see my clients when they were bedridden with a migraine.

I like to make sure that clients who are prone to have these miserable things, always have something to use for migraine headache remedies at home.  There's nothing better than using essential oils.

I've found essential oils to be one of the most effective home remedies for headaches.  They have extremely small molecules.  One drop of oil can contain trillions of molecules.  This enables the oil to penetrate into the skin immediately.

When essential oils are applied, every cell in the body is affected within 20 minutes.  That's nothing short of amazing!

The Most Amazing
Headache Oil Blend

I've used this blend of essential oils time after time for all types of headaches.  This is absolutely one of the most incredible headache remedies I've ever used.

The most remarkable experience I've had was when I used PastTense on a grown man, who was in tears due to a severe migraine.

I simply applied it to the area of pain, waited a few minutes, got feedback, reapplied to wherever the pain had relocated, and VOILA!  This gentleman had total relief from his migraine in less than 5 minutes.

Even I wouldn't have believed it without experiencing it first hand!

I now keep a bottle of PastTense with me everywhere I go.  It's SO much easier to just rub a little oil on someone, than to try to do a headache massage!

A unique blend of:

  • Basil
  • Cilantro
  • Frankincense
  • Lavender
  • Marjoram
  • Peppermint
  • Roman Chamomile
  • Rosemary
  • Wintergreen
